Welcome David Hegge!
We are excited to introduce David Hegge as the new Youth Ministry Coordinator at United Church of Byron! David brings a wealth of experience having worked at Stronghold Camp and Retreat Center and Tall Timber Ranch as well as studying music and religion in college. David also is an accomplished guitarist and plays special music during Sunday worship service. David is “incredibly excited” and looking forward to creating programs to engage kids and help them connect to God and the Bible in fun and new ways!

Reading Buddies
Several members of United Church of Byron have enjoyed spending time with students involved in the after school reading/homework program at Mary Morgan School.  Four days a week they helped third, fourth, and fifth grade students who needed help with math, social studies, and science assignments.  When homework was completed they enjoyed sitting and reading a book together.  The adults helped their reading buddy with any difficult words they encountered. They also talked about meanings of words and about what was happening in the story. Even though reading is considered a quiet activity, it was a common occurrence to hear laughter and talking as they shared a book. The UCB volunteers logged a total of 283 hours assisting Mary Morgan students.
The staff at Mary Morgan School expressed great appreciation for the help given to their students.  They feel the extra help given by UCB volunteers contributed to academic improvement.  The volunteers also benefitted by spending positive time with children and by developing relationships that otherwise they wouldn’t have had. Thank you Mary Morgan School for allowing us to spend time with your students!
