The United Church of Byron is an Open and Affirming congregation that holds the following resolution:
WHEREAS, our members are people of faith who believe each of us is in need of God’s love, guidance and grace,
THEREFORE, be it resolved that we are Open and Affirming (ONA) to all people who seek God’s blessing, regardless of ability, age, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, or national origin.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, we commit ourselves to the continuing process of understanding God’s intentions for us as human beings, proclaiming and sharing God’s extravagant welcome in this place for all people.

We are….

At the heart of our church community is mission work. We have a passion for serving our church, neighbors, and local, national, and world communities. Working as individuals, groups, and as a community, we are called to help meet the needs of others just as Jesus Christ did in the Bible and would do today.

“’For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:35-40

We have fun! While doing mission work can be tedious sometimes we balance that with the realization of the blessings of our faith and community. These blessings fill us with joy in our hearts and excitement in our spirits as we know we are doing Jesus’ work!

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

We believe in an inclusive theology where God’s love has no bounds, does not hold out, and does not run out. We welcome and want to hear and have people of different backgrounds in our community in order to appreciate the uniqueness of the human condition. The way we live out and experience God’s love is to welcome everyone, especially those who have been or are marginalized.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.” 1 Corinthians 12:12-14
